Richard Owens (UCD AC Men's Captain 2011/12) discusses the recent and surprising closure of UCD's athletics track on an Irish radio programme. The track was closed and deconstruction work began less than 24 hours after UCD Athletic Club was notified officially by UCD's Vice-President Dr. Martin Butler. Belfield was Ireland's first tartan track, was built in 1974, was the national track for years and was the home of the still-standing 4xMile World Record set by Marcus O'Sullivan, Ray Flynn, Frank O'Mara and Eamonn Coughlan.
